How Much Does Freight Forwarding From China Cost?

There is no single flat freight-forwarding price from China. A usable quote needs the final packed weight and dimensions, origin warehouse, destination, transport mode, customs arrangement and requested warehouse services. ZQ provides a route estimate in USD through the shipping cost calculator, but the confirmed Bulk Ship price is based on the actual packed shipment and selected route.
What Determines the Freight Price?

DHL Global Forwarding explains that carriers compare actual and volumetric weight and charge on the higher applicable figure. Density ratios and calculation methods vary by transport mode, route and carrier, so one generic divisor should not be used for every quote.
Product Purchasing Cost Is Separate From Freight Cost
A complete China sourcing budget can contain several stages:
- Supplier product amount. The price of the selected product, variant and quantity.
- Supplier domestic freight. The supplier's charge for sending the goods to ZQ's Shenzhen warehouse.
- Purchasing commission. For 1688 orders, Basic accounts pay 7% of the product purchase amount, Advanced accounts pay 3%, and Enterprise accounts pay 0% purchasing commission.
- Warehouse work. The selected receiving, paid QC, labeling, repacking or consolidation work.
- International freight and import route. The packed shipment moves through the selected carrier or logistics partner.
- Destination handling and delivery. These depend on whether the shipment goes to a customer, commercial address, marketplace warehouse or overseas 3PL.
The first three items are not an international freight quote. Keeping them separate prevents the supplier's domestic China freight or purchasing commission from being mistaken for a shipping markup.
Why the First Estimate Can Change
An early quote may use supplier dimensions or an estimated carton. The final carton can change after domestic packaging is removed, protective material is added, products from several suppliers are combined, or an oversized product is prepared for transport.
ZQ confirms the shipment data after packing. The seller should compare the final number against the estimate using the same route, destination and service scope. A lower price is not comparable if it excludes customs treatment, destination delivery, warehouse handling or another required step.
Which Charges Should Be Shown Separately?
Ask whether the quote includes each relevant item instead of asking only for a price per kilogram.

These are not universal fees. A charge belongs in the quote only when the selected shipment or service triggers it.
Real Cost Example: 100 Sunglasses Sent for German Orders
ZQ compared a real 350 g sunglasses SKU under two fulfillment routes. Direct China-to-Germany shipping was quoted at $10.80 per customer order with a 6–10 day international transit estimate. Moving 100 units as one 35 kg actual-weight carton to Delft cost about $85, plus about $10 for the selected tax-inclusive route.
Using ZQ's September 2026 Delft warehouse assumptions and the Germany last-mile base rate, the estimated comparison was:

This result applies to the stated SKU, packed weight, 100-unit batch and route assumptions. It is not a guaranteed saving for another product. Energy surcharges, tolls, remote areas, extra storage, packaging materials, returns and other triggered services can change the final cost. How Should Sellers Request a Comparable Quote?
Give every provider the same information:
- Product type and any battery, liquid, magnetic, oversized or restricted-goods characteristics;
- Final carton count, actual weight and dimensions;
- Pickup or warehouse origin;
- Destination country, postcode and facility type;
- Required delivery date or acceptable transit range;
- Customs and tax preference;
- Inspection, labeling, packing and insurance requirements;
- Whether the quote must include destination delivery and surcharges.
Then ask the provider to state what is included, excluded, estimated and subject to remeasurement. Comparing two headline totals without matching the scope can produce the wrong decision.
Dropship Cost and Bulk Ship Cost Are Different
A Dropship quote covers one customer parcel. A Bulk Ship quote covers a consolidated commercial shipment, often followed by warehouse receiving and local fulfillment. The two prices cannot be compared only by looking at the international freight line.
Use Dropship for new or uncertain products when avoiding advance inventory matters most. Consider Bulk Ship for repeat-selling products, multi-supplier consolidation, overseas warehouse replenishment or oversized goods such as furniture. A hybrid model can keep new SKUs in Dropship while moving proven products in small batches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a standard freight rate per kilogram from China?
No. The applicable rate depends on the route, mode, carrier, destination, chargeable weight and shipment characteristics. A price per kilogram without the calculation basis and included services is incomplete.
Does ZQ show freight prices in USD?
Yes. ZQ's public shipping calculator presents the final route estimate in USD. It does not display a public unit-price formula.
When is the final Bulk Ship price confirmed?
The confirmed price follows final packing and route selection, when the actual carton count, weight and dimensions are available.
Are duties and taxes always included?
No. Many ZQ Dropship routes are tax-inclusive, subject to destination and route availability. Commercial express or special routes may require the recipient to pay import charges. Bulk Ship customs and tax treatment depends on the selected logistics route and the buyer's importer qualifications. ZQ is not a customs broker.
Who prepares Bulk Ship customs documents?
The customer maintains the product name, declared value and HS code in ZQ. After packing, the system can generate the files labeled CI, PI and CL. A certificate of origin can be purchased separately for $20 per certificate.
Can a quote be guaranteed before the goods reach the warehouse?
Only if the provider has accepted fixed packed data and written commercial terms for that route. Otherwise, treat a supplier-dimension quote as an estimate until the final shipment is packed and measured.
